This time, we work dramaturgically!
During workshops, the group of participants selected based on the casting will co-create the final form of a theatre play telling the story of people connected with Gdańsk Shipyard. The workshops will result in a PERFORMATIVE READING of the play featuring a group of professional actors and musicians, to be held on 14 December, that will serve as a closing ceremony of this year’s edition of the project.
The casting will take the form of casual conversations - we are interested in participants’ personal stories or their attitude toward the history of Gdańsk Shipyard. We are looking for people curious about tales from Gdańsk, creative, searching for new forms of bringing back memories of places that disappear from the map of Gdańsk or change their character. During the meeting your theatre-related experience, job or hobbies do not matter. We will invite everyone whose stories will stir us and inspire us to work further.
You can (but do not have to) prepare for the casting some tale or text excerpt, bring photos or an object - anything that can serve as an inspiration for further workshop activities and is connected with Gdańsk Shipyard.
The theatre play will be an artistic expression based on the atmosphere of Gdańsk Shipyard’s glory days, music, songs, fashion, customs, culture and important historical events. We want to address the topic in a modern manner, using multimedia, music and arrangement. The play will be built around the story of a couple working for the Shipyard constituting author’s fictitious creation, however precisely rooted in the reality of the time.
Na Styku Meetings (Meeting Points Sessions) are a project presenting tales of people who had or have worked at Gdańsk Shipyard for many years. During these meetings held at ECS we learn about their stories, inspire their memories, search for relationships between guests who have not known each other before, for places and events where their stories connect, meet. And there are many memories. They include for instance tales from an architectural design studio, reminiscences about the work of overhead crane operators, but also about dance parties and social gatherings. Then, supported by artists, we tell these stories through art. Working with body and voice, drawing - each of these techniques allows to reflect project participants’ memories and experiences. It is an original and unpredictable way of presenting shipyard stories.
