Researchers and academics—including young academics who can annually enter an ECS competition for the best master’s, doctoral and postdoctoral (habilitation) thesis on the history and the ideals of the Solidarity movement and the opposition against communism and dictatorship—organisers of cultural events and teachers have an archive, library and media library at their disposal at the new ECS building. The research and academic centre, conducted by the Social Thought Department delivers conferences, lectures, workshops, books and more.
The ECS will continue to produce documentaries and publish books and magazines: the English language New Eastern Europe, with the Russian edition Nowaya Yewropa, and the Polish language Wolność i Solidarność. Studia z dziejów opozycji wobec komunizmu i dyktatury [Freedom and Solidarity. Studies on the History of the Opposition against Communism and Dictatorship].
